5 Pieces of Advice To Listen To In Your 20’s

When it comes to preserving our health both mentally and physcially there are so many ways that you can do so but there is 10 I have composed together that aren’t ‘trendy’ and randomly created to get you to spend your money for no reason and no results.

There are pros and cons to the internet; not only can you find valuable information on there like this blog but it’s also a hub of misinformation, especially on the likes of TikTok, where creators ‘swear by’ these methods, diets and products that are just a big marketing scam and not worth your time.

What I have found most useful in my journey to finding real, verified information is going through the old classics that have never steered us wrong and completely natural methods that are and have been recommended from generation to generation, because back then, the only things that would stick were the things that actually worked.

I have gathered my research from women alike and women older than me, as they know best, always and here are 10 things they’ve told me to do and 10 things I will always do.

Castor Oil Packs

Just castor oil as a whole should be taken seriously, and not even in your late 20s. It’s likely something that you are already clued up about because your mum was. If you are unfamiliar with a castor oil pack, it is a material wrap that goes around your stomach or any area where you feel like needs a detox. You coat the area in castor oil, wrap the pack around your body, and sleep in it.

You might be thinking, ‘How does this have any benefit to me?’ Castor oil is amazing at cleansing and removing impurities, so if you suffer from autoimmune disease or health issues or have a poor lymphatic system, you can aid in detoxifying by placing the castor oil pack over your liver (upper right quadrant of the belly). It can alleviate arthritis and reduce inflammation when applied directly to strained muscles or joints. Menstrual cramps can be reduced, reproductive health can be supported, gut health can be improved, and digestion can be aided by applying a castor oil pack over your entire belly. There are several benefits to these packs.

Alongside this, oil is great in aiding hair growth, which is great to get on top of during the ageing process.

Facials Over Botox

I know you might be thinking I’m crazy in saying that, but seriously, there are so many facials and skincare products available on the market that are completely natural and are amazing in aiding anti-ageing and just overall improving your complexion and skin brightness. Whether it’s Korean skincare or you invest in a natural facial such as Zaffiro (only available in an aesthetics in Cheshire at the moment called The Clinic Cheshire), it’s a great option that our mothers have done before us and remain glowing and fresh-faced.

Pelvic Floor Exercises

I think these types of exercises and just overall tightening our pelvic floors aren’t spoken about as much. While we are told about Kegel exercises, and I’m pretty sure I only found out about them in my late teens, it’s just not a habit we all remember to do, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t like doing them because it goes through me.

If you are like me, consider doing more squats, stair climbing, heel slides, and bridges, and there are a few others. Pelvic floor exercises are great preparation for childbirth, but also just overall ageing. Keeping them strong and awake prevents leakage as we age.

Take Vitamin’s

Vitamins are so good for us and they always have been, but there are specific ones that are beneficial to all, but more so to women. Here are a few vitamins I would strongly recommend having as a supplement or through your diet. Vitamins D, C, A, and B12, which are great to have all year round and others such as iron, folate and magnesium, which all serve their own unique purpose but help us through things such as our menstruation.

We need energy and good sleep, so B12, iron and magnesium are very key with those elements.

Listen To Your Body

All these strict and unrealistic eating habits just aren’t for everyone, and it’s not because of what you like and dislike, but simply because your body is different from everyone else’s. For example, little things from your blood type to underlying health conditions. Your body knows better than anyone what it needs, so specific cravings and stuff should always be considered. Obviously, if it’s unhealthy food every day, that’s not okay. It’s just that when you crave certain and specific foods, don’t deny your body them because your diet doesn’t allow it.

Moderation is key, and happiness is very key as you age.

Your Weight Doesn’t Matter

A happy and healthy life is all you need; don’t worry about your body, your shape, size or anything so trivial. While I know from a woman and personal experience it’s all that we can think about sometimes, but seriously? I am always reminding myself of scenes from films that resonate with me.

The first one is from Eat, Pray, Love, specifically the scene where Julia Roberts is eating pizza with her friend Sofi, and she mentions that she can’t eat pizza because she’s put on weight during her time in Italy. Julia Roberts said, ‘Has a man ever asked you to leave after seeing your body?’ The answer is and always will be ‘no, because who cares if you have a muffin top and don’t adhere to the ‘male gaze’? Confidence is sexy, and loving yourself for all of your shapes and sizes will and always will attract the right man or woman into your life.

Another moment was during an interview with Emma Thompson, and she began to talk about women, and she said with such love and passion, ‘dont waste your life’s purpose worrying about your body. This is your vessel. It’s your house. It’s where you live, and there is no point judging it.”

These words are so loud and encouraging for women to stop doing things at the expense of looking ‘good’ to a certain audience that you shouldn’t care about. Stop being so negative about yourself; you are powerful, strong and beautiful, no matter if you have an hourglass figure.

Final Thoughts

There is so much misinformation out there that can have such a bad effect on our mental and physical health. I would always recommend you do the research and don’t listen to people just wanting ‘views’ to give you advice.
