By some accounts, those who are considered as having an Allied Health job make up around 60% of the health care industry. This profession is different than nursing, pharmacy and traditional medicine. The best way to describe their job is that it helps doctors and others be able to perform their jobs. They do this by doing diagnostic and technical work as well as therapeutic care directly with patients.
Types of Allied Health Jobs

- Anesthesia Technician
While you may not directly deliver the Anesthesia all the time, this might not be a bad thing. Still, you’re going to have to have a lot of skills in order to assist everyone in the operating room.
- Music Therapist
Music for therapy? You bet. This is an Allied Health career path that should interest you if you’re into music. Whether you’ve played in a garage band before or just believe in the power of music, this might be a great career for you.

- Paramedic
This can be a dangerous career, but at the same time it’s a very fulfilling one. You’re going to need certification and training in order to become a paramedic, but it can be a fulfilling career for some people.
- Phlebotomist
As a Phlebotomist, you’re going to be trained to draw blood in a number of different circumstances. This is a very important job that needs to be done in a lot of different situations.
- Dietitian / Nutritionist
If you’d rather work with the body from a distance, you should think about becoming either a dietitian or a nutritionist. The difference between the two is that the former deals with patients directly while the latter usually sits on a board of a large company or government committee in order to give an educated opinion on dietary matters.
- Dental Hygienist
As a Dental hygienist, your goal is going to be to work with patients on preventative care, which is very important and can help people avoid major dental problems. In this position, you would work closely with a dentist and assist in a variety of ways in the office.
