How to Become an Internet Marketing Guru

A guru is usually defined as some one who has a lot of knowledge about a particular subject and uses that knowledge to teach others. There are gurus for probably every niche in every line of work possible. But gurus are not made overnight, you have to be recognized and offer or do something better than the rest in your field. It’s a high pedestal to balance on, but your title can be easily stripped away. It’s a lot of work, but can be very rewarding.

Got a knack for Internet based marketing?

Use it! Become an Internet marketing guru and teach others how you so successfully marketed your business or services and gained the popularity of thousands. Again, this doesn’t happen overnight, you have to prove yourself. Start a website and get some clients. If they are totally satisfied with your services, have them either fill out an online survey or leave a glowing recommendation on your site.

It is easier said, than done.

Becoming an Internet marketing guru is something that requires being a true entrepreneur.  First, you have to have to know marketing, whether you went to school for it or its self-taught, no one will listen to you if you don’t know what your talking about. You need to know the lingo and the tools commonly used in marketing, especially Internet marketing, which is a class all its own.

Having a website is a big help too. You need a place where you cannot only share your expertise, but give others a chance to share their tips, tools, and maybe some (positive) experiences with you as a guru. You can offer knowledge in the form of weekly articles on various marketing topics or a newsletter form. Or, you could do both. The newsletter could be much more in-depth and target a specific audience. This will require a bit more work, but could be outsourced to the right person or team.

Go to conferences and conventions. This is a great way to not only meet and network with others in your field, but learn about new tools and products to increase your knowledge and offer your customers something more or better. Networking can also help you learn new strategies for businesses, since what work for one, may not work for another.

Create a business plan to help you stay on track and manage your time. Business plans are not legal documents and no one has to see it but you. But with a little effort, this project could save you time and money in the long run.  Business plans not only establish the technical data, such as taxes, expenses, overhead, and start up costs, but can be more embellished on the details, like how you plan to target potential clients and keep up on the latest tools. You can then refer back to it anytime you want.

Remember that becoming a guru isn’t an easy or short process. It takes work and a willingness to continue to increase knowledge of your field.
