If there’s one constant in many of our favorite action films, it’s the awesome cars that the heroes (and sometimes villains) drive. While there are certainly some really cool trucks and sedans and other larger vehicles being driven in a lot of these films, today we’re looking at the top five sports cars used in some of our favorite films. Continue reading to learn more!

  1. 1963 Aston Martin DB5 from the Bond franchise

In the pantheon of famous picture cars, James Bond’s famous Aston Martin is frequently cited as one of, if not the best sports cars we’ve ever seen. It was made most famous by arguably the best James Bond film, Goldfinger, but it was also featured in the recent Skyfall, largely due to its legendary status.

The awesome gadgets—whether you’re talking about the tire slashers, the smoke screen, the oil slick, the front-facing machine guns, or the famous ejector seat—aren’t the only reason this car has endured in cinematic history.

They certainly help, but look at the thing: it’s gorgeous!

  1. The 1994 Toyota Supra Mark IV from The Fast and the Furious

This sports car in some ways represented the beginning of what would become one of the biggest franchises in film history. This car’s inaugural win during the race between Toretto and O’Conner helped cement the sense of speed the franchise has become known for. The orange Supra laid the groundwork for the kinds of sports cars we saw in future installments and we would see different models of the Supra designed by Cinema Vehicles in Fast Five.

  1. The 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future

We tend to hear lots of references to the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future. Obviously pushing the 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 to 88 miles per hour in real life won’t hurl you back in time to the 1950s, but that doesn’t stop it from being a really cool car to look at. Even though the car itself does very little driving compared to the other entries on this list, its iconic nature in cinema vehicle history makes it a hard entry to pass up.

  1. The 1974 XB Ford Falcon Coupe from Mad Max

Also known as Max’s black Interceptor, the Ford Falcon Coupe in the Mad Max films is an iconic muscle sports car hybrid that really earns its name, especially in 1981’s The Road Warrior: it’s lean, it’s mean, and it’s as cool as its driver, Mad Max himself. It even makes a cameo at the beginning of the 2015 reboot/sequel Mad Max: Fury Road because seeing Max Rockatansky’s car against its post-apocalyptic backdrop is necessary for a film to even be a Mad Max film.

  1. The 1961 Ferrari GT250 from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Where would a list of the coolest sports cars in movies be without the most tragic?

The 1961 Ferrari GT250 from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off meets an untimely demise at the end of the film, but it’s there throughout the adventures of the titular character and his friends.

Only about 100 of these cars were actually made, so it makes it extra terrifying when it goes crashing through Cameron’s garage into the woods below.

So there you have it: the top five sports cars in movies. If you haven’t seen all or any of these, do yourself a favor and rent them post-haste!
