Winter Dreams: Los Angeles

Winter is coming and the times of joy and holiday travels are upon us! Ho-ho-ho! But, instead of visiting Winterfell, you might want to take some more… friendlier destinations into consideration. A number of people love tropic islands like Tahiti and Bora Bora in the winter because the weather there is just perfect at this time of year. Others, however, enjoy the holiday spirit of European capitals like Rome and Paris – just picture the Colosseum or the Eiffel Tower covered in show! Alas, for people who are able to see these sites all year long, destinations like Tokyo or New York are more attractive. But, if you decide to come to the USA, be sure to visit California in the winter, too – it is just perfect and the climate is more than welcoming. Here are some of the things that will make a long-lasting impression on you.

Visit the Beach

For people accustomed to piles of snow and cold weather during the winter, visiting a beach around Christmas probably sounds like the craziest idea ever! And it is – unless you are in LA. Since the climate here is quite different from what you might be accustomed to – and, for that matter, from most parts of the United States – a visit to the beach in the winter is a normal thing.

Moreover, with so many beautiful beaches in the Los Angeles area offering various activities, there is something for everyone. You will not, however, be able to swim and get a tan, as the temperatures are usually somewhere around 70º F, but you will be able to enjoy a couple of hours on the beach, especially if you bring a drink and a warm sweatshirt.

Go on a Hike

For more adventurous types of people, LA is perfect because of the choices of hikes it offers. All those hills surrounding the city are best explored on foot. These hikes have several benefits that can unexpectedly turn your winter visit into something that will nurture your body and soul at the same time.

Namely, LA hills are great for an outdoor workout – you can walk, powerwalk, jog or ride a bike in this wonderful environment. Moreover, you will be able to get to appreciate the city on an entirely new level and have an amazing view of the ocean. Finally, due to slightly low temperatures, the tracks will surely not be as crowded as they are in the summer.

Sporting Events

California is the home of some of the best professional sports teams in the world, and a number of legendary athletes. From the San Diego Padres and the Golden State Warriors to the Oakland Raiders and the Anaheim Ducks – every sports fan can identify with one of the franchises. And even though sports may not be the main reason of your visit to LA, you might want to consider visiting an event or two while you are here.

For example, basketball lovers should not miss at least one NBA game, because such an unforgettable experience cannot be matched by anything else. And this is the season we can witness the true renaissance of Californian professional basketball! So, take a look at, for example, the LA Clippers schedule, find a game and enjoy the magic of Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul at the Staples Center.

Other Ideas

A visit to Disneyland, ice-skating and walks in public parks and gardens are just some of the things to do in Los Angeles during the winter. The reasons why this city is so popular in the cold season are simple – nicer weather, cleaner air and cheaper accommodation than in the summer. Sounds much better than Winterfell, right?
