Going on a Vacation? Here’s How to Keep Your House Tidy While on Vacation

A vacation is a much-anticipated event in our lives and for a good reason.

It’s a time to unwind and de-stress from all the problems that life gives you. When you come back home after days of relaxing, you would want to keep the positive vibes that you got from the vacation to last you for at least a week.

However, a surefire way of letting yourself lose that mojo is by coming home to an unclean and poorly kept house. You should do yourself a favor by making sure that you set up a way for you to go back to a clean and tidy home.

Below are some ways you can keep your house tidy while you are on vacation and having the time of your life.

Do not leave any dirty dishes

Whether or not you’re going away for a vacation, don’t get into the habit of leaving any dirty dishes unwashed in your sink. There is no excuse not to wash your dishes, especially when you have a  dishwasher in your home.

It is especially discouraged to leave any dirty dishes left on tables or counters or any surface unwashed. Plus, if you’re going to be away from home for a long time, then leaving dirty dishes isn’t a good idea.

The scent of leftover food on your unwashed plate will attract all sorts of critters and pests inside your home.

Clean out the fridge

Speaking of leaving food for a while, you should also consider cleaning out your fridge before leaving for vacation.

Before you leave, throw out any food item that you think could expire while you are away. Think about how mold can cross-contaminate other food in your fridge should you decide to leave expired and about-to-expire food.

When you get back home, you will only want to wind down, and you may not be conscious nor remember what was in your fridge before you left. That is the reason you should be one step ahead of yourself and clean out your fridge, wipe away any spills, and throw away expired items.

Do the laundry

After you’ve come back home from several days away due to a vacation, then you need to do your laundry.

It is a task that you will thank yourself for after you’re tired from all that traveling and you find that you don’t have additional laundry to deal with aside from the clothes you’ve brought with you to your travels.

Days before your trip, you should have finished or had already started to wash your laundry and hung them up to dry. Besides, if you include the clothes you plan on bringing with you to your travels in the laundry, then you have fresh clothes to work with on your trip.

Take out the trash

When you come back home after a long while, you don’t want unwanted guests to be the one to welcome you back from your trip.

If you want to avoid this from happening, then you should make sure that you take out the trash. By leaving your trash alone in the bins, you can attract all sorts of pests into your home by the scent of rotting garbage.

With you out of the home, then there’s nothing that will stop these critters from crawling into your home and damaging it. Aside from that, they can also spread germs and bacteria that is undoubtedly bad for your health.

Clean your toilet

One of the best parts of the home that people miss when they come back from a long trip is their toilet.

The comfort and familiarity of your home toilet are unparalleled, so this reaction is understandable. With that in mind, you should clean your toilet before you leave for an extended vacation.

It doesn’t even have to be too thorough. A quick cleaning session is good enough for you. MaidSailors, a professional cleaning provider, recommends to toss in a small amount of baking soda and flush the toilet several times and you should be good to go.

A clean toilet is the porcelain embrace that you would want to receive when you finally arrive back home.

Sweep and vacuum the floor

If you’re going to be leaving your home with no caretaker for a long while for your vacation, then chances are you’re going to accumulate quite a bit of dust around the house. That is the reason it is encouraged that you sweep and vacuum the floor before you leave for a long time.

It doesn’t have to be too thorough a job of sweeping and vacuuming. General work is satisfactory. As long as you keep at bay the dust and dirt that will set in your home, then it’s fine enough work.

Make sure that you also wipe the dust away from other surfaces with a dust rag.

Make your bed

One neglected pre-vacation task that some people don’t do is to make their bed before leaving. Even if you’re not going on a long vacation, it’s always a good habit to make your bed before you leave your home.

Wrap up

Going on vacation can be stressful or enjoyable, depending on you. At the same time, how you feel upon coming home can also be managed by keeping your home clean at all times. With these steps mentioned above, you are sure to love coming home after a vacation.
