Some kids have an inherent resistance when comes to learn how to swim than others.  However, practicing to swim and teaching essential life-saving techniques when in water to children at a young age will help them to overcome their aqua phobia.

Things to remember before teaching kids how to swim

He explains that in the beginning it is essential for parents to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR techniques along with their children. For this, they can take lessons from their local Red Cross organization. Moreover, it is equally important to keep instructions of these techniques near the pool as a reminder for everyone how to perform such techniques.  Parents need to make such that the child is healthy before taking him/her to swimming classes or imparting such lessons. This is because teaching a sick or injured child how to swim can do him/her more harm than good in the initial stages.

Use a sunscreen

Before taking children to an outdoor swimming pool, parents should ensure that their children use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15. In case of light-skinned kids, it is advisable for parents to use such a cosmetic lotion of a higher SPF. This will protect them from the harmful rays of the sun when they are in the pool. Children should apply the sunscreen lotion at least sixteen minutes before entering the water. However, if they want to swim in the water a long period, then parents should insist that they reapply this lotion at regular intervals.

Start teaching them at an early age

Alpman Ilker emphasizes that when parent beginning teaching their children how to swim they should take their time. They should endeavor to make swimming an enjoyable experience and slowly introduce them to lifesaving techniques when in water. Ideally, parents ought to expose their kids to water at the age of three months because then their natural responses will protect them from potential injuries when they are in the pool. Unfortunately, such responses tend to disappear, as the children get older. This is the reason why it is necessary for children to take swimming lessons at an early age.
