Great RV Destinations In The South

Great RV Destinations In The South

I’ve enjoyed travelling across the US in RVs for years now and I’ve come across some great spots in my time. Every stop is a chance to meet a new friend and enjoy the great outdoors. In my travels throughout the southern states I’ve seen some great country and I’d like to share a few of my favorite spots.

Great RV Destinations In The South

Grand Isle State Park, Louisiana

Located a little over two hours South of New Orleans, the Grand Isle State Park is a fisherman’s hotspot. To get closer to the Gulf of Mexico you’d have to be in a boat, which many people do to take advantage of the trophy deep sea fishing. The Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo is hosted here annually on the last weekend of July. You don’t have to be an ichthyology enthusiast to enjoy this spot though. The park includes enough space for 100 families for camping and some of the sites include electrical and water hook-ups for RVs.

Myakka River State Park, Florida

Boasted as being one of the oldest and biggest state parks in Florida, Myakka River is for the nature lovers. With 57 square miles of natural Florida landscaping you can expect to see an abundance of birds, gators, hogs, and other game within the wetlands, woodlands, and prairies. The biggest attractions for many guests are the airboat tours and the canopy walk. The canopy walk brings you high into the trees as you walk from suspended bridges and platforms to explore a part of the forest few get to see up close; fantastic views of the park are another highlight of the walk.

Linville Falls Trailer Lodge & Campground, North Carolina

Great RV Destinations In The South

For people looking to enjoy the cooler months for RVing, and visit the Blue Ridge Mountains will enjoy the quiet campground in Linville. This particular site doesn’t offer as many hookups or sites as larger RV parks or resorts, but does offer some pull-through and back-in sites. Linville Falls is over 3,500’ elevation and is surrounded by trees which keeps the temperature cool. This site is especially nice during the lazy, dog days of summer but be sure to reserve a spot due to a limited number of spots.

Gulf Breeze RV Resort, Alabama

Not everyone likes to rough it or experience the great outdoors. If getting pampered and having everything you need within walking distance is more your styles then head on over to Gulf Breeze RV resort. The resort offers over 250 full hookups and cable TV, laundry, patios, grills, and picnic tables are included in many of the sites. A plethora of recreational activities are on site for users with pools, hot tubs, fishing, shuffleboard, basketball, tennis, and nearby golf courses just to name a few. Gulf Breeze is just a short drive to the beach as well.

There are hundreds of great RV destinations in the historic South, these four just happen to be a few of my favorites. Go out and explore with an open mind and where you’re sleeping won’t matter half as much as what you’re experiencing.
